Dance Contempra began participating in dance competitions in 2021, shortly after the pandemic. Our dancers quickly embraced the opportunity, and their enthusiasm, growth, and success inspired us to continue offering competitive performance opportunities. We currently participate in two dance competitions each school year.

What Is Competition Dance?

Competition routines are learned outside of regular class time and are in addition to a dancer's weekly technique and training classes. Participation provides dancers with valuable performance experience, opportunities for personal growth, and the chance to build confidence, teamwork, and stage presence.

Eligibility

All Dance Contempra students ages 8 and older who are actively enrolled in classes are eligible to participate in competition.

Competition Fees

Each competition organization sets competition entry fees, which may vary throughout the season. Families should anticipate the following approximate costs:

• Solo: $175–$245 per routine

• Duet/Trio: $85–$130 per dancer

Some competitions also require a mandatory media fee, which provides access to professional videos and photos of performances.

At this time, Dance Contempra does not enter group routines into competitions.

Registration & Refund Policy

Competition registration deadlines are determined by each competition organization. Once a dancer has been registered and competition fees have been submitted, all competition fees become non-refundable, regardless of withdrawal, scheduling conflicts, or other circumstances.

In the event of an injury, some competition organizations may offer a credit toward the following competition season if a physician's note is submitted by the required deadline. Credits, when available, are determined solely by the individual competition and are not guaranteed by Dance Contempra. Any credit policies, deadlines, and documentation requirements are established by the competition organization and may vary from event to event.
